My Journy at Magnet


Taaghche is an Iranian e-book store, founded in 2012. Having been the co-founded by some technicals, Taaghche did not have standard product development process and almost all aspects of the products have been decided in technical teams. After I finished my job as CEO of Magnet Ad Services, which was other subsidiary of Hasin Group, I joined Taaghche team to coach their senior managers, helping them do the right process to deliver the product. Thanks to dogged determination of the technical team, infrastructure of the product as well as data structure were completely well-developed and soon we could jump into flourishing product team with agile approach.



At the beginning with we realized that the previous design of the app not only seemed to be old-fashioned, but also lost the essence of the main objective of the product, saying that Taaghche is designed to facilitate online reading of books. Till then Taaghche had been focused on delivering various ebooks, in different categories but the number of its active users did not increase drastically in accordance with the overall marketing expenses. With conducting a simple user research based on face-to-face interview, we realized that users do not want to buy more and more e-books every day or every month but in contrary they want to have same experience of buying as well as reading paper books when they buy or read online. All these led us to redesign the store and the epub and pdf reader so as to our users could gain high-quality enjoyable experience when they use Taaghche.



During user research we gathered some piece of evidence showing that there is a strong segment among users who have high tendency to pay a subscription fee by which they can borrow books for a limited time and return it to the store while they have permanent access to notes they have taken during reading the book. This, therefor, led to us developing subscription based feature in which people can read what ever they want in their subscription period, just like a real public library. This feature along with in-house development of epub and pdf reader drastically boost our active users and overall revenue as well.



One of the biggest challenges we faced in Taaghche was SEO optimization. The google search console data revealed that the number of our organic users was not aligned with what our market research showed. We developed an R&D project over our SEO condition and we found three main points of improvement which was technical SEO, content enrichment and off-page SEO. Through a six-month project, we increased our organic lead generation with 300 percent in one year.
